Your mom called, I told her you went out with friends, is that ok?
She didn't seem to know that you were going to Taiwan, so I didn't say
anything about that.
You should call her back to let her know you're ok though. If you tell
her you went to Taiwan, make sure you tell her you arrived tomorrow,
so that she doesn't think I lied to her about your going out with your
friends.

Thanks Sam. I just called my mom and told her I went out dancing. I won't worry her about being in Taiwan. I'll call her again tomorrow.
Things are not going well here. The publisher is organizing tons of events and is always busy. He seems not to know what to do with me, and I only got to talk to him twice very briefly so far. Also I am outside of the loose group (I ended up getting all 4 nights of hotel by myself), and though I tried to talk to people, I got very little responses. I may be able to meet some TW publishers tomorrow, but judging from the circumstances, I don't think I'll get much traction. Can't wait to come back. This trip has given me serious doubts about publishing (not writing, but the activities of publishing).
Sorry to give you such bad news. I was really happy for the turn of events in Egypt though. This piece of news and your email keep me strong.
Enjoy your weekend sweetie,
Hoiyin

Sorry to hear you're not getting much traction yet. You've got a few
days, maybe you can talk to tons of people to find other indie
publishers, learn about the state of publishing in Asia, get some
industry statistics/trends, etc.
If the publisher doesn't know what to do with you, do you have any
specific questions or goals you'd like to accomplish with him? Maybe
if you just pick one thing you'd like to get out of a conversation
with him, you can focus on that goal instead of waiting for him to
think of something for you...
It's just the first day, so you're still mapping out the situation. I
think you'll get more traction once you finish surveying the scene and
identify some useful opportunities. Ga yeo ah! I love you :)
By the way, I went to Neumos by myself to dance, and had the whole
floor to myself with some great DJs for almost two hours!

Thanks for the analysis. Today was the second day and tomorrow will be the last day. They won't be at the conference tomorrow; I don't know where they are going yet. I'll have to email to find out.
The publisher is so busy with all the other real authors that he doesn't really have time to talk to me - he doesn't seem to want to talk much either. We talked for less than 1 minute both times.
I'll see what I can do tomorrow. Don't worry. I am okay. It's just being an outsider who's not good at mingling with the cultural type is not working out so well, but I'll do my best tomorrow, and then I'll come back.
Neumos had no one dancing for 2 hours? How come?!

What time does your flight arrive, and what's the flight number? I
thought I had that info, but can't find it.
Did you buy a lot of books? If you pack them in a box or something, I
can bring a stroller to help you carry them to the car.
Neumos' floor was empty because it's a House music club, which means
an older crowd that's more shy about dancing. Once the crowd picks up
though, the floor gets packed within minutes. It's a very cool vibe,
as long as you bring earplugs.

My flight is UA876. It arrives at 9:24am, but I think you can come at 10am. You know how late international flights usually are.
Thank you for picking me up ar. Wish me luck.
Cheers,
Hoiyin

Good luck with your day at the conference!!!!!! :-D
Have a great flight too! If you have a chance, email me before you
leave, but it's totally fine if you're busy.
